I am excited to be teaching a Hula Hoop Dance Camp this summer at the New Children's Museum! We will make hoops, learn hoop tricks and create a hoop dance performance for the parents at the end of the week. It runs from June 20-24th, 2011. [Prerequisites: None, but medium sized light hoops will be easier to learn with (36in or smaller)]

This workshop will be in San Diego but it is such a rare opportunity that I encourage hoopers from LA and OC to attend as well!
Poi-style hoop is a exciting new style of twin hoop play that takes inspiration from poi, staff, fans and club swinging. The aim of this weekend workshop is to take you to a level where you start to feel comfortable moving around off-body with two hoops and can easily transition into on-body. It will start with a style of poi-hoop I have been developing called Z-spins. They don't involve grip changes and allow you to move more freely with the hoops while creating simple but incredibly effective patterns that are quick and easy to learn (see “Zee End of the Whirl” on Youtube). You'll then learn how to blend these moves with figure 8 variations, thread the needle and weaves and how to move between them. We will also be working on some of the advanced moves such as the Twisters and Hugs.
Bags is a professionally teacher and performer from the UK who has been formally trained at Circomedia - Europe's leading centre for contemporary circus and physical theatre. Bags' recent achievements include: winning the 2011 Hoopie for Tutorial of the Year (for “Bags of Poop 1.0”); being nominated for Video of the Year; winning two Revolvies; founding the Bristol Hoop Massive; and becoming a teacher on Hooping University. He is an innovative and multi-disciplined performer who has a strong passion for circus in all it's forms - but just at the moment you're unlikely to find him anywhere other than inside a hoop! The mission of World Hoop Day is to bring joy through the importance of play to children around the world. The earth, plants, animals and humans are composed mostly of water. Look all around you, within you, we are made up of and surrounded by water. When we send positive vibrations to water, or anything made up of water through spoken or written word, as well as music and movement, the molecules change their expression and become a conductor for healing. Aquarian Tides is about raising awareness of this precious resource, and bringing our attention to focus on healing. Read more here.

GOVINDA (Austin, TX)
Govinda is the alter-ego of Austin based producer/composer Shane Madden. He began studying violin and composition at the age of eight and went on to study classical violin at the University of Texas where he fell in love with electronic music production. It was in Madden’s pursuit of his gypsy roots that he opened his ears to music from around the world. From experiences learning violin with mysterious masters on his journeys across the globe and his passion for modern design and technology, the current sound of Govinda was born.
Govinda has played with Thievery Corporation, Tipper, Bassnectar, Shpongle, Cheb I Sabbah, STS9 and many more and been featured on over 25 compilations such as Buddha Bar II, Asian Travels II, and Nirvana Lounge selling a combined 400,000 copies. Govinda has played at numerous festivals throughout North America including Coachella, Lightning in a Bottle, Sea of Dreams, SXSW and more. Govinda’s music has been licensed on shows like “Roswell” WB, “Road Rules” MTV, and “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” Bravo as well as many independent films.
Govinda performs on Ableton Live accompanied by classical violin. Govinda is currently touring in support of his album “Universal On Switch” which was released independently earlier this year.
