Hooping is a fun and creative way to work out and express yourself. An increasingly popular way to exercise, hooping is also a new form of dance and performance art. Tone your core, arms, legs and gluts while getting a cardio work out, learning a new skill, increasing your coordination and having FUN while you do it! Challenge yourself to continue learning the endless amount of tricks and dance moves the hoop has to offer.
You will need:
1. Your hoop (if you don’t have one, I will have loaners in the class)
2. You can do this class barefoot or in a pair of sneakers.
3. Water.

This class is meant for anyone who has taken at least one hoop class through Unity Hoops before and/or has been hooping for around 3-6 months minimum. We will build on basics to take them even further. An emphasis will be put on using polypro hoops – both single and doubles. We will learn short combos at the end of each class that incorporates what we worked on that day.
You will need:
1. Your hoops (you should have your own, but if not I will bring some polypro loaners).
2. You can do this class barefoot or in a pair of sneakers.
3. Water.
Let’s dance! We’ll start with a full body warm up, stretches and some short strength exercises to target the specific muscles used most in belly dancing. Then we’ll go over a different focus of movements each week using our hips, upper body, arms and hands. At the end of each we’ll put those specific movements together into a fun short combo set to music. This class should awaken every part of your body making you feel engaged, aware, opened and empowered!
You will need:
1. We will do some stretches and strength exercises on the floor, so if you prefer using a yoga mat, have one ready.
2. I like to belly dance barefoot.
3. Water.

The Sassy Vintage Showgirl! We will be tapping into our sexy selves in a safe space full of encouragement and fun. Explore yourself, learn about yourself, love yourself and accept yourself for all that you are, right now. We’ll bump ‘n grind, sass it out, pose and play. We’ll go over accessible jazz based movements and some of the classes will involve simple clothing removals – you’ll use what you already have at home! This class is inspired by vintage music and aesthetic.
You will need:
1. We will do stretches and strength exercises on the floor, so if you prefer using a yoga mat, have one ready.
2. You can do this class barefoot or in a pair of character shoes.
3. Water.
4. We might play with some props like gloves, simple removals of clothing that you already have around the house. I will let you know in advance if we plan to do that.

This class is meant for anyone who has taken at least one fire fan class through Unity Hoops before and/or has been spinning fans for around 6 months minimum. We will build on basics to take them even further. An emphasis will be put on tech moves with some fun dancey and flowy moves thrown in too! We will work on short combos at the end of each class that incorporates what we worked on that day.
You will need:
1. Your fans (email me if you need recommendations).
2. You can do this class barefoot or in a pair of sneakers.
3. Water.

In this beginner level class, Valentina will break down the basic movements of Vinyasa style Yoga. We will work on proper body alignment and understanding of the poses to create a beautiful flowing sequence. Pairing breath to movement will give you a feeling of unification in your mind, body and spirit. Each class will strive to help you become in-tune with your body; through stretching, opening, strengthening and aligning it. As we become in-tune with our body, we can start to understand our mind and fully become the best possible version of ourselves! This is a donation based class, please bring cash, your yoga mat and water. Please be on time. This class will start promptly at 6:30pm!

Spend a day with the Vaudeville Vixens!

10am – 12pm: Closet Swap
Bring any clothing that you’re done with but might be great for someone else. Can be regular clothing, costuming, shoes, accessories, hats, etc. Get rid of old clothes and find some new-to-you treasures! All extra items will be donated.

12pm – 1pm: Lunch
Break for lunch! Pack your own or walk to any of the close locations for food. We’re in the heart of Hillcrest with lots of delicious food options nearby.

1-1:30pm: Showgirl Stretch w/ Valentina
It’s going to be a long day of movement, let’s get into our bodies, breathe through our tightness and stetch it out. This class will prep you to work on your side splits and wheel / bridge pose, with variations.

1:30-2:3pm: Fou Fou LaRoux

2:30-3:30pm: Curls & Cat Eyes w/ Kinki Kalypso
This workshop will entail learning the basics of curling your own hair with a flat iron and/or curling iron, as well as tips and tricks to mastering the cat eye. Tools needed will be hairbrush, rat tail comb, duck tail or butterfly clips, working hairspray, heat protectant, curl pins, (encouraged but not necessary) curling iron and/or flat iron (must be no larger than one inch) and your favorite liquid eyeliner. We will go over what type of products to use to prep and work with the hair as well as techniques and direction for curl patterns and proper heat setting for different hair types. We all love a good cat eye, so I will go over my personal techniques to achieving that dramatic winged eyeliner.

3:30-4:30pm:All About That Face w/ Emeraude LaStarr
You’ve dialed in your choreography. Your costume is bedazzled to perfection. You’re ready to tell your story. Whether you’re performing for an intimate gathering of 30 or a theater filled with 300, your goal is to engage your audience. Aside from eye contact, how do you, the performer make that connection? This workshop is designed to allow each participant a safe environment in which to explore their individual emotional range and relationship to an audience through facial expressions and body language. In addition to facial expressions we will discuss and participate in Mind Body activities that cover various topics including emotional comfort zones, sensuality, energy, breath, touch, and composure. This workshop will benefit all performance artists – beginners to seasoned!

4:30-5:30pm: Luna Divine

This immersive day is meant to give you a variety of offerings that will build your burlesque, dance and performance repetoire. The funds raised from this day of workshops will go towards travel, costume and marketing for the Vaudeville Vixens Showgirl Troupe. Spend the day with us and allow us to each give you a look into our unique strengths!
